The 1181 Restaurant
Howfield is located in the heart of the "Garden of England" as Kent is often known, and is within in easy reach of active fish markets around the East Kent coastline. With the most amazing producers of fruit and vegetables, cheese, livestock, game, juices, bread, ice cream and much more right on our doorstep, we feel that we cannot do anything less than pledge to source most of our food for the restaurant from within a fifteen to twenty mile radius of the hotel. We have also built a kitchen garden in order to grow our own herbs, unusual salad leaves and edible flowers. Howfield Manor Hotel is a member of Produced in Kent, reflecting our commitment to using locally-produced food from award-winning local producers.
The 1181 Restaurant is situated in what would have been the chapel when the Manor, originally known as "Haghfeld" was a dairy run by monks as part of the Priory of St Gregory. The Manor was established in 1181, and it is thought that theflint-dresseed chapel building dates from this time. With a low-beamed ceiling and leaded windows, the Restaurant has an intimate feel, in which to enjoy freshly prepared locally produced food, all served in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
